Story of Kickback

What started off as a sneaker drive, has now evolved into a non-profit organization with comprehensive programming and a mission to break down barriers for underserved youth, using sports, arts, and education to help them reimagine their futures and become changemakers in their communities. At Kickback, guided by lived experience, Jamal and his team share a vision to connect brands and communities authentically to offer kids in marginalized communities access to dream-like opportunities. Within the world his team has created for youth — positive imagery, representative mentorship, and supportive infrastructure are vital in continuing community cultivation. Based in Toronto, Kickback has also done global work to foster connectivity around the world further, impacting places such as Havana, São Paulo, Jamaica, London, Paris, Marrakech, Brooklyn, Oakland and more. Jamal envisions a world where every kid has the confidence and skills to achieve their dream through Kickback. With the help of his team, they work tirelessly to shift the portrayal of the youth experience. The ambition is for Kickback to continue growing as a visual and visceral aid for the kids who deserve a fair chance at pursuing their dreams while finding safety in a like-minded community. To date, Kickback has delivered over 100 programs and moments, and has distributed over 1.1 million dollars in footwear to kids across the world.
